Marriage Anniversaries

All marriages go through their good periods and their bad periods. For marriages that make the test of time, there are many yearly anniversaries. Each successive anniversary means more, as the couple spends even longer together building memories.Every anniversary, it’s time to put in the effort to show your spouse how much you love them. Anniversaries call for appreciation, to be sure.A wife who is choosing a gift for her husband should keep in mind the things he likes and doesn’t like. A gift is meant to be a way to show love and understanding. Part of this is knowing what your husband will and won’t like.Tradition dictates what themes for gifts should be used for the different anniversaries. For instance, the first anniversary is the ‘paper’ anniversary, so the gift should be of paper. A nice example of a paper gift might be fine stationary with his initials engraved on the writing sheets and envelopes. If you want to be more personal, you might try your hand at writing him a poem and printing it in calligraphy on a piece of parchment paper. A beautiful poem, written out artistically, can then be placed in a decorative frame. You might also take a photograph from a fun time you had together and frame it. This, too, would be an excellent gift of paper. The second anniversary is the cotton anniversary. This is also very easy. Think of how many items are made of cotton! The following year anniversaries are leather for the third, fruits and flowers for the fourth, and wood for the fifth. As the years continue, the materials become more durable and expensive. The tenth anniversary is tin, the 15th is crystal, and the 20th is china. Most people are familiar with the silver anniversary, occurring at the 25 year mark, and the gold which commemorates 50 years together. You can find a full listing of the different traditional wedding gifts, listed by the year, on the Internet. There are hundreds of sites that list gifts by year as well, making shopping easy. You have a long way to go to get from the paper anniversary to the diamond one. Each year, take the time and put in the work to make your partner feel loved and appreciated for all that they do.
