Have you ever considered what your life might be like if you were working the job of your dreams? It may be hard to imagine if you are currently sitting behind the desk and in front of a computer screen that displays an inbox full of requests that you just cannot seem to catch up to from your boss. Perhaps becoming your own boss would eliminate some of the day-to-day stress you feel and allow you to branch out and use some of your own ideas. If you are a recent high school graduate, or you have been in the workforce for a few years, you know that the whole world is at your feet. Although it may not seem like it at times, the sky really is the limit! Don’t stay in a dead-end job that is not going to get you to where you would like to be in life. Instead, enroll in college courses to get started earning your degree today. When I left high school, I decided to work in a restaurant full-time until I decided what I wanted to do with my life. Soon four years had gone by, and I was no closer to doing what I really wanted to in life than I was on the day I graduated high school. After the four years that flew by, I was still working night shifts as a bartender and server in the same restaurant. I attended a friend’s college graduation who I went to high school with. She had completed her Bachelor’s degree in political science at a local university and was ready to go to law school. I felt a bit defeated walking in to work the next day knowing that my peers in high school were actively achieving their dreams, and I was still at a standstill in my life. While I was searching the internet one night, I came across a few scholarship programs that were geared toward returning students. I was curious, so I decided to write an essay and apply. A few weeks later, I received a check in the mail for a few hundred dollars! After checking out some degree programs at my local community college, I decided to enroll. I used the scholarship money to knock off a large amount of the tuition money, and it was more affordable than I had originally thought. I continued to work part-time at the restaurant to make some money on the side. Unlike most of my other friends, I did not have to spend money relocating or commuting to campus.I soon enrolled in some extra accounting courses to further my love for math and crunching numbers. I was walking across the stage at graduation before I knew it! The next step was enrolling at a university to complete my Bachelor’s degree in accounting and business. In order to pay for the rest of my tuition and expenses, I took out a couple of student loans in my undergraduate career. Luckily, I was able to pay the interest while still enrolled in college through my part-time job to avoid interest accruing on the loans.
