Having anxiety before and during creating is a fairly common occurrence. This will seem like such a simple tool that you may not think it will work. It can and will if you allow it. Using your journal can help you to empower your authenticity and bring peace to your tension around creative endeavors. Working with this tool can help you transform your anxiety into wonderful moments of great inspiration.A journal is a place of discovery where you can learn deep insights about yourself. It is place that you can share and be anything that you want to be. To create your journal you will need a blank midsized book or whatever you have on hand such as a lined notebook. Anything will do but you want to make it your own. What does this journal symbol to you; freedom, creativity, adventure? Get a couple of magazines and cut out pictures and words that symbolize what that is. It is yours, embellish it to your heart’s content.Paste your clippings to the front of your journal. You can save any extra clippings to paste within your pages as you feel inclined to do. One option for storing them is either in a large manila envelope or a folder. Keeping them with your journal makes it easily accessible if you are feeling the need for more than your words or drawings.Other fun tools for your journal that you may want to keep in a zippered bag:
Markers
Highlighters
Colorful pens
Gel pens
Sparkle pens
Glue Stick
Small staplerYou can choose to journal at anytime. I suggest that if you wake up in the morning feeling anxiety get out of bed immediately, make yourself a soothing cup of tea or hot chocolate, put on relaxing or spiritual music, then find a cozy place to sit and journal.Getting started:
Putting your pen down and without lifting it, draw spirals all over the page on the left while taking slow easy breaths.
Doodle small shapes such as circles, triangles, hearts, squares, or flowers.
Draw symbols, funny little people or creativity monsters.
Draw the sun, moon and stars. At some point you are going to feel ready to write. It is an opening that happens; allowing your higher self to step in.Once you feel yourself moving into a very relaxed state, pose a question on the opposite page.It can be any question:
Why is the sky blue?
What does the little girl in me want to say?
What shadow qualities are holding me back?
What steps do I need to take to feel more empowered?
Why do I feel so crazy when I want to do something creative?
Why do I wake up feeling anxious?Continue writing without stopping for at least two to three pages. If you can’t think of anything to write, write what is going on around you. What do you here, smell, see? At some point words will begin to flow out of you and you will either find the answer or realize there is another question that is more important. When you are finished, as you look back at your writing, you may discover that you were definitely tuned in because the words are not what you would normally use. That is when you know that you made room for your higher self to come through.Making time for your journal, and being creative with it, you will see the benefits increase. You will find yourself wanting to be creative in other areas of your life. The best benefit is you will see your anxiety, around creativity and possibly elsewhere, melting away.
